The Technical School of Weaving, or Väfskolan, of the University of Borås was founded in 1866. Today the University is a world research leader in “smart textiles’” such as cloth that changes color when a mobile phone rings, garments that measure muscular frequency, or curtains that can become lights in the dark. At one workshop, participants designed and wove cloth samples incorporating LEDs for use in garments or décor, including a garment fabric able to interact with a handwoven wall hanging that featured an LED array. So if you happen to have some electrical engineering or nanotech skills in your weaving bag of tricks, they might be a smart addition to your entry for the fashion show in Borås!
