I’m finding it very hard to believe September is almost over. Last I checked, it was still June, the sun was shining, and the whole summer was ahead of me. Now, suddenly we’re head over heels into fall and it’s now two months to Thanksgiving and the opening of “The Holiday Season” and all that comes with it.
As I am the kind of person who is already planning her Thanksgiving menu (right now I’m narrowing down whether I want to do rolls or demi epis), I am also planning my holiday weaving. I’m hosting Thanksgiving so that means I’ll need at least a runner and if I have time, napkins.
I’ll also need to start on hostess gifts for all the parties for Hannukah, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve and everything else in between. For those I will put on a loooong warp for a dozen or so dishtowels. Then (of course), there are all the Christmas presents for close friends and family. This will probably include more towels, napkins, and so many scarves.
Just as with dinner, some projects I will be planning “from scratch,” but for most I’m going to be using tried and true recipes with a few tweaks here and there to make them my own. Cei Lambert’s fun bamboo rigid-heddle scarf would make a quick and easy gift OR you could widen it up to use as a runner. Lynn Tedder’s delicate huck napkins are the perfect partner for good china, and there are options for both 4- and 8-shaft looms. Betsy Blumenthal’s festive dresser scarf (which you can see below) would make an equally amazing runner, although you could coordinate it with Jane Patrick’s pillow to create some fun accessories to decorate your living room or guest room. I know I can’t wait to get cracking!
