We were pretty proud to debut Jennifer Moore’s Doubleweave on a 4-Shaft Loom last year. Now we’re even prouder to launch her follow-up, Block Doubleweave on 8 Shafts.

Check out a trailer! This workshop is sponsored by Schacht Spindle Company.

Doubleweave allows you to weave two layers of cloth at the same time. In her 4-shaft workshop, Jennifer shows how to weave double-width cloth, cloth tubes, and double layers where the colors reverse themselves on the front and back of the cloth. And while that might seem like a lot, just you wait.

Because once you move up to 8 shafts, ...hoo boy. As any weaver knows, the more shafts, the more possibilities. While you will weave a hefty sampler in this workshop, Jennifer sticks with the basic theme of double blocks, and that is plenty.

A basic doubleweave threading requires 4 shafts. If you think of your 8-shaft loom as two sets of 4 shafts, this allows you to weave two separate blocks independently of each other. Woo-hoo! The most basic example is a checkerboard pattern, but you can change the width or height of the blocks, change the colors in your warp or weft, change your tie-up, and change so many things. Do you see what I mean about possibilities?

If you have tried doubleweave and want to know more, be sure to check out Jennifer’s newest workshop and see how far it will take you.
