This issue of Handwoven is devoted to one of the most versatile and move loved of all the weave structures: twill. Weavers love twill because it’s always in style, it gives cloth an incredible drape, and it looks far more complicated than it is. This issue features a wide-variety of twills from elegantly simple 4-shaft twills to more complex undulating and network twills. There’s even advice on how to weave twill patterns and cloth with twill properties on a rigid-heddle loom. Plus Rosalie Neilson writes about the history of the kong? gumi, a 16 strand kumihimo braid and gives instructions for braiding different 4-spot patterns on a marudai.
