Do you find yourself pulling towels with seasonal borders out of the drawer to use as the weather changes, or as holidays approach? You’re not alone!
Since we‘re deep in the spooky season, we‘ve recently published Margery Erickson‘s Skullery Towels, which use summer and winter for the supplementary weft border motif. Have you woven them yet?
If you‘re looking for something different, you‘ll find links to eight more of our favorite border designs below. We‘ve got tulips and daisies, hearts and butterflies, and snowflakes and evergreens. Santa even makes an appearance!
Or do you have an idea for creating your own motifs? Sandi Fisher describes how to go about designing borders on a rosepath threading in Handwoven September/October 1990, beginning on page 70. It‘s not complicated and, as Sandi writes, a table loom is great for weaving borders like these.
We hope these ideas will inspire you to put a warp on the loom and get weaving!

Margery‘s Skullery Towels were originally inspired by Georgeann Curran‘s Sheep Towels, above left. If you‘d like to weave a herd of your own, you‘ll find the instructions in Handwoven March/April 1990, beginning on page 84.
