Ask Madelyn: Substituting 8/2 Tencel for 10/2

I am planning a project from Handwoven's Design Collection 19. Instead of the 10/2 Tencel specified, I ordered 8/2 Tencel. Can I use this in place of the 10/2 and should I change the sett from 2 per dent in 12- dent reed to another reed or sleying order?

Ask Madelyn: Different Types of Warping

Generally, there are three basic methods of warping: from the front, from the back, and sectional. The labels "from the front" and "from the back" are determined by the threading direction.

Ask Madelyn: Troubleshooting Weaving Density Issues

I can see where I have advanced my warp because the weaving density of the cloth is different after I’ve advanced. Is this a warp tension issue?

Ask Madelyn: Uneven Warp Ends

I warp from front to back. I have found that no matter what I do, my warp ends are at different lengths once they are threaded through the heddles. If I have a fairly wide warp, I usually wind more than one chain.

Ask Madelyn: Changing Color in the Weft

What is the proper way to deal with changing weft color? Does one break and restart or carry the yarn up the edges?

Ask Madelyn: De-Mystifying Mystery Yarn

I’m looking at some wool yarn on eBay. They give the weight of the mystery yarn as 12 wraps per inch. I’ve asked the owner if they know how many yards per pound it is, but they don’t know. Can you point me in the right direction?

Ask Madelyn: Temple Trouble

I am weaving a chenille afghan and using a temple to keep my edges straight. The afghan is 56” wide on loom, and I wanted the finished width to be about 50”. My question is what width should I set the temple to?

Ask Madelyn: The Sweet Spot

What is the sweet spot, and how often should you be advancing the warp so you're always weaving in it? Madelyn shares her keys to weaving in the sweet spot.

Ask Madelyn: Deflected Doubleweave Selvedges

I’m wanting to weave my first piece in deflected doubleweave but I’m not sure how to handle the selvedges (I have to weave 4 picks of one color followed by 4 picks of another).

Ask Madelyn: The Sett for Doubleweave

I have only been weaving for three years and am fascinated with doubleweave, but how do I determine the sett for a doubleweave project?
