Cowgirl Yarn

This week we focus on a little yarn shop called Cowgirl Yarn!

Owner Lori Kirk began Cowgirl Yarn eleven years ago with the intention to provide the secluded mountain town of Laramie, Wyoming with a place to find quality fibers and local yarns. Over the last decade, Cowgirl Yarn has evolved to become a fiber destination for knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners, and fiber folk alike to travel to.

While we carry yarn from six of the seven continents, we also have a heavy focus on supporting companies that grow themselves right here in the United States, including plenty of Wyoming-based businesses with exceptional products that you just won’t find anywhere else. This wild diversity in fiber options provides a worldly experience in one of the most remote places in the country.

Our calendar is peppered with events meant to get our clientele to the source of their most beloved yarns. In the winter we visit the Brown Sheep factory in Mitchell, Nebraska, just a short drive away from Laramie. In the spring, we visit a local ranch during lambing season and cuddle the same sheep that provide yarn and spinning fiber for the store. In the summer we gallivant about town and show off our fiber pursuits in yarn bombing exploits and spend two weeks immersed in the Hot August Knits Yarn Crawl.

Classes are always happening at Cowgirl Yarn and we make an effort to include both beginners and advanced folks in all disciplines in our line up. Whether we are creating the curriculum for a weaving design class, encouraging knitters through their first stitches, or bringing in yarn giants like StevenBe, Cheryl Oberle, and Beth Brown-Reinsel, we have our customers and friends in mind as we do it.

Cowgirl Yarn is a hub of activity and diversity. You can always find a few good friends chatting and knitting or crocheting up front. Students transform into lifelong fiber pals in our classes and visitors often find themselves feeling as if they are home within just a few minutes. Join us for a cup of tea sometime soon!
